Devotion by: Pastor Ryan Moreaux
“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.” -Acts 16:25-26
It is at midnight, men go inside and lock their doors for the fear of evil lurking all around them. The midnight hour brings darkness, despondency, discouragement, depression and defeat, yet Paul and Silas praise God at midnight! Life’s circumstances have literally beaten them up and locked them up in a dungeon. It is truly a midnight hour, yet they are still praising God! Why?
My son got a bop bag for Christmas, you know one of those punching bags when you punch it it, it pops right back up. Well I watched him bop that thing all the way across the room but it kept standing right back up. How could that thing take such a beating and stand right back up? It is because what was down on the inside overruled what was happening on the outside. You see down on the inside of that bag is a weight, something heavy holding it, so when it takes all of life’s midnight, it is still standing. At midnight when Satan and circumstances are beating you black and blue. At midnight when you have problems on the job. At midnight when there are family problems you can’t resolve. At midnight when there are rebellious children that won’t come home. At midnight when the bills are being stacked up higher than you can pay. At midnight when you are in the dark , discouraged and defeated. At midnight when the doctor gives you bad news. At midnight when life has beaten you down and locked you up. At midnight when the circumstances are giving you a left, left, right, right, uppercut- just PRAISE GOD because midnight may be your darkest hour but it’s also the start of a brand new day! Greater is He that is in you than he who is in the world. Your praise is not based on the circumstances around you but on the Christ inside of you. He will take your darkest hour and make it your deliverance hour, Your worst circumstance will become your best circumstance. The chains that are locking you up will soon set you free because our God is not just the God of the day, but the God of midnight. And while you might find yourself in a midnight hour – praise God.
because He will use it to give you a brand new start! Happy New Year!
