ATTITUDE DETERMINES YOUR ALTITUDE
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
When we won the Mississippi High School Baseball State championship in 2002, we had a saying we lived by that was even printed on the back of our shirts, “ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING”. The word attitude is not found in the Bible but there is a word found that is a synonym to it- the word spirit. Often times the word spirit means disposition of the mind or attitude. In numbers 5:14 you find the “spirit of jealousy”. Numbers 14:22 says Caleb had “another spirit” and wholly followed the Lord. Psalm 77:3 says “my spirit is overwhelmed”. Proverbs 20:27 says, “The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” Daniel 6:3 says, “Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him. It is our spirit that determines our success, not the other way around! May this truth ring in our hearts this morning , “our attitude determines our altitude”! Just look at the author and finisher of our faith, Jesus ascended to Heights no man ever could for his name is above every name, but it was his attitude that determined his altitude. For the word of God says that it was because he humbled himself that he would be exalted. No matter his circumstance, he had a humble, gentle, meek, kind , compassionate, optimistic, faithful spirit. For all of you believers, you have the spirit of the Son that cries, “Abba father”. Our texts says you can have rule over your spirit, which means you have a choice. The walls of your circumstances do not determine your attitude but it is your attitude that will eventually determine your circumstance. Today your focus will determine your future, your aim will determine your attitude and your attitude will determine your altitude!
