HOW TO HANDLE CRITICISM
“And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.”
1 Samuel 17:28
We all know the story of David and goliath and how a little shepherd boy conquered the champion of the enemy. But before David conquered the giant he had to first conquer the criticism. Before he could ever win the battle that he would choose he had to win the battle that he did not choose. If you stand for God you will face criticism. You must face criticism if you want to walk after your Master. 2 Timothy 3:12 says, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Do you get that? You must pick up your cross, follow Jesus and face your criticism!
- FACE IT with a clear conscience
Do you know why Eliab criticized David for
coming against the giant? In the previous chapter, God passes up Eliab and
anoints David to be king saying, he does not look at the outward
appearance but at the heart of man. So by the time we get to chapter 17, Eliab
is filled with jealousy and resentment. Most, if not all, criticism is spawned
from jealousy. The truth is
Eliab was one of the tallest in the kingdom and should’ve fought Goliath. David came to do what Eliab should’ve been doing. Listen friend, When you do right you become the conscience of those that do wrong. You don’t even have to say anything. But you doing right, you become an affront to them who are doing wrong.. Everyone that stood with Jesus in the Bible faced criticism before they ever conquered. Just know dear friend before you ever overcome the champion, you have to overcome criticism.
2. FACE IT with courage (v30)
3. FACE IT with a cause (v29)The cause is always greater than the criticism!
