WHAT IS YOUR LIFE?
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
The Bible is a living book spoken by a living God teaching us how to live life. There are really two lives: one when we start out with living here on earth and the other is eternal life giving to us through the Lord Jesus Christ by being born again. And in both accounts of life, the source is Almighty God. There are a lot of things said concerning our life. And here in the text, James the half brother of Jesus who is saved after the resurrection, asked a powerful and pointed question- what is your life? And then he proceeds to give the answer, “it is a vapor.” It appears in vanishes away. In other words, it is like a puff of smoke in the winter time when hot air condenses in your mouth and turns into cold air and there’s a puff of smoke and then it’s gone. God is saying, your life is very short!
1 Samuel 20:3 says, “but truly as the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.” Oh dear friend, do you realize you are just one heartbeat away from eternity. Job said my days on this earth are few and full of trouble. Listen to Psalm 89:47, “oh remember how short my time is”. Listen, if you eat just right and you exercise every day and live to be 100 years old, compared to eternity that is like a molecule of water compared to the ocean. May we all be reminded today to redeem the time for time is short. It is here today and gone tomorrow. In the blink of an eye, in just a vapor, your life can change, so trust Jesus, forgive often and love with all your heart because you may never have that chance again.
