What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
When we hear this parable we generally think of ourselves as the one lost sheep. Or perhaps you think of yourself as one of the hundred fold. Saved. Saved to be nurtured by the sincere milk of the Word. Saved to be loved, nurtured, disciplined, guarded, and guided by the hands of our Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord! Tis Good News! But is that it? Is that where it ends? God forbid! Did you catch His question? His question for YOU as you behold this parable as a glass and look into the Spirit provoking questions and truths to guide you into the conformity and imagery of our Shepherd? “What man of you?” Christian, you were not saved to just be brought back to the fold and sit tucked away in a corner of your grassy meadow to remain an infant sheep. No, child of God, you were saved for so much more! To be the man! “Which man of you?” Which man of you will seek the lost? Which man of you will stand in the gap? Which man of you will contend for the faith? Which man of you will feed His sheep? Which man of you will die to self, live as Christ, love your neighbor, and finish the work God has called you to? Which man of you will come out of your barn stable of comfortable, religious confinement and actually shepherd the lost sheep and faithful flock alike into the fields of Our Father’s love? Our Master is proposing this question to all of us: “WHAT MAN OF YOU?”
“…lovest thou Me? Feed my lambs… lovest thou Me? Tend my sheep… lovest thou Me? Feed my sheep.” – John 21:15-17
