The light of the body is the eye. If thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be FULL of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

Matthew 6:22-23

This week with our weekly devotions I want to take a look back upon the idea of “vision”.  1,298 times our Bible tells us to “Behold”. With that being said let’s look at some perspective from the word of God and pray it changes how we perceive things today.

20/20 Vision

Can you see beyond?

Deuteronomy 3:24-25 KJV

O Lord God, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven, or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

Joshua had seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. Here Joshua stands on the edge of the promise land and is peering into the other side. In fact, Joshua was one of the twelve who not only went in to scout out the promise land but one of the two among the twelve who had something good to say about it. One of the only two who had faith among the frightened. Joshua and Caleb had saw the falling of the thousands in the wilderness because of disobedience and unbelief, and saw the provision in the wilderness, and saw the good that was waiting for them in the promise land.

As I look at what God has done in my own life, this is so encouraging, and such a great reminder. I have seen God’s hand move in and change hearts and cleanse lives. I have seen God take careers, marriages, families, broken homes, diseases, famine, peril, (you name it!) and turn it around for His glory! You show me something in the heavens and in the earth that does anything close to what God has done?! I’ll wait. There’s nothing like Him, there’s not one who can compare. The greatest thing of all is that I haven’t even seen His greatest work yet. He’s only begun to show us His glory. Even in the midst of this tragic time in our city, in our country, and in our world right now, I pray like Joshua, I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon. Things right now may look a little rough, but can you see beyond? Can you see the other side of the mountain as Pastor preached yesterday? It’s going to take faith, patience, and endurance. But O, child of God, we’ve only seen so little. Look beyond the temporal and momentarily, God’s with us among our storm, let’s stay faithful, as He is doing something right now that has the potential to change the world as we have seen it. Don’t get caught up looking at all the hype, but, can you see beyond?
