A woman once went to the preacher accusing herself of badmouthing people. The preacher, a wise man, listened lovingly, prayed with her and gave her a strange request. He told her to go home, get a hen and come back, plucking the bird’s feathers as she walked along the street.
When she had returned to him he said: “Now go back home and, as you go, pick up each feather that you plucked on the way.” The woman told him that it would be impossible since the wind had almost certainly blown them away in the meantime.
And the preacher told her “You see, just as it is impossible to pick up the feathers once the wind has scattered them, it is likewise impossible to gather gossip and calumnies back up once they have come out of our mouth.”
Proverbs 11:13 KJV
[13] A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
Talebearer- a person who maliciously gossips and reveals secrets
Maliciously – in a manner by malice or ill with intent to do harm
Are you revealing things that will hurt people ? I would say before you start to talk about someone pray for them.
Proverbs 12:18 KJV
[18] There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?
Ephesians 4:29 KJV
[29] Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
In today’s world there is enough bad news and corrupt communication as Christians it is important that we spread the gospel :
Mark 16:15 KJV
[15] And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Gospel (/ˈɡɒspəl/) is the Old English translation of Greek εὐαγγέλιον, meaning “good news”. … The written accounts of the life and teaching of Jesus are also generally known as “Gospels”.
GOSPEL > GOSSIP
