THE WHALE HAD TO VOMIT 🐳
“And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.”
Did you know that when a whale becomes sick and is going to die, it will head towards shore because it is to weak to swim. As it gets near its death, the whale tries for one more gasp of air, and then vomits as it beaches itself upon shore. What a wonderful foreshadowing we have with Jonah and the whale. Jonah had a whale of a problem. He was swallowed up by the whale God prepared to him and Jonah begins to cry out from the whale’s belly. Jonah cries out of the “belly of hell” (v2) and asks God to bring him out of “corruption”. And on the third day, the great fish vomits him up on dry land. But we must look further than Jonah and see Jesus -for a greater than Jonah is here! And Jesus said, just as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matthew 14:20). When Jesus died on Calvary and became sin for all mankind, He went down to the belly of Hell itself, but hell could not handle Him, the grave could not hold Him, and death could not keep Him, so on the third day death had to vomit Him up. Oh death where is thy sting, oh grave where is thy victory? Hallelujah, death is swallowed up in victory. Satan and the whale of death felt good for a little while, but soon afterward, the whale looked to the devil and said “something doesn’t feel right. I’m feeling sick.” And so death had no choice but to swim back to shore, and by the the third day beach itself, vomit up the Savior of the world and give way to victory. Thanks be unto God who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
